AMBER SANDY

Longhouse Labs Fellow ‘26 - ‘ 27
Amber Sandy, a proud member of Neyaashiinigmiing, the Chippewas of Nawash First Nation, is an artist and passionate advocate of land-based education. Amber is an inaugural winner of the 2023 David Suzuki Foundation's Rewilding Art Prize. Her artistry, which focuses on bark, leather, beadwork, quillwork, tufting, and fur, is deeply rooted in her culture. As a hide tanner, she meticulously transforms moose, deer, and fish skin into handcrafted leather. Her work reflects a deep connection between Indigenous knowledge systems and environmental science, exploring the reciprocal relationships between land, cultural identity, and education. Amber’s fervor lies in increasing access to traditional land-based knowledge, practices, and art for Indigenous people.

Gayogo̱hó꞉nǫʼ (Cayuga) and German visual artist and independent curator living in Hamilton, ON. Her research focuses on Indigenous futurities and accessing embodied ancestral Hodinöhsö:ni' knowledge. Her artistic work has been exhibited at the Art Gallery of Hamilton, University of Ottawa, Woodland Cultural Centre and the Robert McLaughlin Gallery.

An acclaimed artist with an extensive exhibition record. He was awarded the Toronto Arts Foundation's Inaugural Indigenous Artist Award (2021), and the 2024 Governor General's Award in Visual and Media Arts (GGArts).

IndigiQueer Anishinaabe Photographer originally from Couchiching First Nation located on Treaty #3 territory. They currently reside in so-called Kitchener located along the Grand River. Bangishimo is a community organizer, educator, and advocate.

Protect the Tract is a Haudenosaunee-led project that conducts research, policy development and develops capacity for civil engagement. During their fellowship they focused on artistic frameworks to engage with public audiences to raise awareness about Haudenosaunee land stewardship over the Haldimand Tract.
